Glynn Barr, ACSW
Virginia Glynn Barr, ACSW, is the
Executive Director of the Mental Health Association of Okaloosa and Walton Counties.
She was elected the President of the Association
in 1993-1994 after serving on the Board of
Directors since 1989.
Mrs. Barr, a clinical social worker, worked with persons experiencing severe and persistent mental illness in the state hospitals of Alabama and Florida before coming to Okaloosa County as Coordinator of the Baker Act Program for the Okaloosa Guidance Clinic in 1977. In addition to her work as a clinician,
she was director of the emergency services and
aftercare at the facility.
She designed, developed and then directed the Geriatric Residential Treatment System in Crestview for five years and then founded Glynn-Barr Inc., a private consulting firm.
Mrs. Barr currently serves on the board of
Governors of West Florida Community Care, is a
founding member of the Okaloosa/Walton Homeless
Continuum of Care, and founding member of
Impact100 Northwest Florida.
In 2005, she was inducted into the Okaloosa County Women's Hall
of Fame and selected as a distinguished Alumnus
of the University of West Florida, where she
served as the President of the National Alumni
Association. In addition to her service
with the University, she is a past president of
the Jr. League of the Emerald Coast.
